The words 'mental asylum' will likely conjure up certain thoughts and feelings, all of which I dare say are negative, and these photo will only support such thoughts. My intention though is to make you challenge these thoughts. Yes, think about what they became and why as a society we have deemed them as terrible places, but remember, they were all built with good intent. So, what went so wrong? And is simply closing institutions the answer to this problem?
